Join Patti Sinclair, editor of the CSLP Summer Library Program Manuals since 2003, as she presents book recommendations, craft activities, games and other ideas from the Make a Splash—READ! manual. You’ll leave this interactive workshop with lots of ideas and enthusiasm for planning your summer library program.
The workshop will be similar in format to the one Patti led two years ago. There will be a PowerPoint presentation highlighting books related to the theme, and program ideas. Patti will choose some of the best program ideas from the manual, and the group will participate in making some of the crafts, doing games and skits, and practicing songs and fingerplays. Patti also plans on displaying some of the crafts from the manual and will discuss theme decorations.
Following a hot lunch buffet catered by the Millennium Cafe, Susan Bryant of Morrill Public Library in Hiawatha will give a short book talk on good water-themed books for youngsters. Erica Voell, the new children’s librarian at Bonner Springs City Library will present Water, Waves and Weather — Fun Summer Program Ideas For All Ages. This presentation will have program ideas for ages 0-99 with ideas for 0-5, 6-12, 12-18 and adults, and will include craft and program ideas.
The workshop will wrap up with a special performance and presentation by Stan Slaughter and Linda Chubbuck, creators of the music CD, Water All Over the World, which is being provided through a generous grant from the State Library to every library in Kansas.
Cost of the workshop is $15 for NEKLS members; $30 for non-members.
