AASL (American Association of School Librarians) has released its 2011 list of the Top 25 Websites for Teaching and Learning.
This list provides several topical areas, the AASL standards applied to these topics, and a brief description of the tools themselves along with links. This list is targeted at school librarians, but I think it’s safe to say anyone interested in online technology would find this list useful.
The list covers the following topics:
- Media Sharing
- Digital Storytelling
- Manage and Organize
- Social Networking and Communication
- Content Collaboration
- Curriculum Sharing
- Content Resources: Lesson Plans and More
Most of the tools on this list were new to me, including Dipity, Khan Academy, Digital Vaults, and PicLits. Have you heard of or used any of the tools on the list?
The tool lists from 2009 and 2010 are available online. Finally, NEKLS also has three books in our professional collection that further explore implementing the AASL standards:
- Standards for the 21st Century Learner in Action
- Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs
- 21st Century Learning in School Libraries: Putting the AASL Standards to Work
