An online continuing education program, called 23 Things Kansas, launched on Monday, January 11. The program is designed to introduce participants to online tools for community, sharing, and productivity. Participants will work through self-paced modules each week, exploring tools like Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr. It is modeled after a very successful program started by Helene Blowers when she was with the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County (in North Carolina).
Almost 500 Kansas school, public, and special librarians and library staff, trustees, and friends of Kansas libraries registered for 23 Things Kansas before registration closed! If registered participants finish the all the online learning modules, they will receive 30 continuing education hours, plus have a chance to win several prizes. If you missed the registration deadline, but still want to follow along, you are more than welcome to participate!
The Kansas program is being written and designed by a group of interested individuals, including staff of the State Library, the regional library systems, and individual libraries around the state. See the project website’s mentors page for a full list of contributors (including many NEKLS contributors). You can also follow the participant progress by visiting their blogs (listed on the project website’s participants page). There are an impressive number of NEKLS participants! Leave them blog comments as they make their way on this learning adventure!
