NEKLS, in conjunction with the North Kansas City (MO) Public Library, is hosting a one-day workshop on Friday, August 24, 9:45 am – 3:00 pm, with renowned security expert Warren Graham, author of Black Belt Librarians: Every Librarian’s Real World Guide to a Safer Workplace.

“Finally! Everything about security that you didn’t learn in library school presented in everyday language based on real experience in a public library. Having Warren work with staff is the best investment in our continuing education that we’ve ever made.”
–Susan Henricks, Carnegie-Stout Public Library, Dubuque, IA

Warren Graham has been a security professional for twenty-five years. He spent the last seventeen years as the Security and Safety Manager for the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, developing and overseeing their program. He retired in August of 2006 to establish Warren Graham Training and Consulting.

Warren has traveled across the United States helping libraries of all sizes acquire a sense of really controlling their work environment. Unlike other security consultants, Warren actually worked in a library, so he is well aware of the problems the front-line, professional librarian experiences on a daily basis.

This will be a one day workshop utilizing real life library security problems, telling us what works and what doesn’t work in the real world of the library. Mr. Graham’s workshop will include small group discussion, role playing, and time to talk about our specific library issues. NEKLS member libraries will have the chance to attend this workshop at the special rate of just $5 per person, including continental breakfast and lunch. Library directors, front-line staff and trustees are invited to this important workshop.
