Public library directors wear many hats – and we’re not talking fedoras and sombreros! The theme for this year’s NEST retreat is The Many Hats of a Director. Speakers and sessions will cover a variety of topics pertaining to the myriad roles and responsibilities facing today’s library directors: Stress Management, Employee Management, Volunteer Management, Programming, Fundraising, and more.

In addition to the sessions, there will be plenty of informal discussion, networking, and information-sharing – as well as time to enjoy The Barn’s tasty food and peaceful setting.

Mark your calendar! This year’s NEST retreat will be September 18th from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and September 19th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Barn B&B in Valley Falls. NEST – NEKLS Education System Training – is an overnight retreat for public librarians serving small to medium-sized communities. Library staff and board members are also invited to attend on a space-available basis. This year’s program – The Many Hats of a Director – is still being developed. Check back for updates as new information becomes available.

To register, complete the NEST 2009 Registration Form and submit it to NEKLS by mail, fax, or courier by Friday, September 11th. The fee varies according to the extent of participation:$25 for one day, $35 for 2 days with no overnight stay, or $45 for 2 days with overnight lodging.
