Local churches and organizations in my community were hosting flood refugees and providing food and other necessities. Many of the flood victims spent time at the library at which I worked and I saw innovative uses of technology as people tried to locate and connect with family and friends. That was in 1997 and the technology is even more useful now as people work to help the people and places affected by Hurricane Katrina. ALA, for example, is frequently updating their website with library-related news. A blog has been started to help employees of the New Orleans Public library locate one another. A Yahoo Group has been set-up to identify efforts to assist.
