Library eContent, and particularly eBooks, is an exceptionally important issue for NEKLS and its member libraries as the publishing industry undergoes a major transformation in how books are delivered to readers. I believe this is at least as significant a change as the adoption of the Internet in libraries. We need only consider the fate of Amazon and Barnes & Noble, which have aggressively confronted this trend, and Borders Books, which failed to do so and perished, to understand the importance of this service. The State of Kansas is in the process of implementing a new statewide library e-content service, Kansas EZ Library.

NEKLS has put together several resources to help you navigate the waters of eContent:

  1. eContent Common Questions (and answers): These questions and answers relate directly to the Kansas EZ Library platform provided through the State Library of Kansas.
  2. eContent Participation Recommendations: These recommendations address questions regarding NEKLS libraries’ participation in Kansas EZ Library, including purchasing amount recommendations, the purchasing process, and eContent selection criteria.
  3. The “Tech Toy Box”: a kit of eReaders, tablets, and other devices that is available for presentations for staff and library patrons. Visit the page for more information
  4. eReader Resources: A collection of links and further resources on the ever-evolving world of eContent. This is curated by various NEKLS staff and updated on a regular basis.
