The children’s area of the newly-renovated Mary Cotton Library has an 8’x8’ wall mural created by library patron and artist, Beverly Montgomery. The mural portrays a variety of characters from popular children’s books, including Winnie the Pooh, Tom Sawyer, and one of Maurice Sendak’s Wild Things. It even depicts a few local residents who modeled for the project. “The book characters have been a favorite among the kids, while the adults who view it are whisked back to their childhood as they identify different places and characters in the painting,” said library director Kim Priest. It’s both whimsical and warm.”
The artist has dedicated her work to the people who read to children.
