NEKLS will be submitting a Library Services and Technology Act grant application to add more libraries to the NExpress regional shared online catalog. NExpress offers the Koha open source integrated library system and enables libraries of all types and sizes to provide rapid and direct access to shared library resources, with training, technical support and software enhancements provided by NEKLS and our support vendor, ByWater Solutions. Currently 34 libraries are part of the NExpress system, with four additional libraries committed to migrate during 2011. More information about NExpress is available at http://www.nexpresslibrary.org/.
If you become part of the NExpress system you can expect increased collection use, active resource sharing, and the support and assistance from NEKLS and from the other NExpress libraries. If you are considering participation, please visit one of the current NExpress libraries and see the system at work.
The 2011 NExpress grant application will have two new features:
- Due to a price reduction by our new support vendor, the grant will cover all data migration costs. Your only start-up cost will be minimal charges for bar codes, patron cards and hardware as needed. The ongoing annual fee is based on library income and ranges between $450 and $5,000.
- For the first time, school and academic libraries are eligible for participation in the grant application.
We are accepting NExpress participation applications now. Want to know more? Contact me:
