Reader's Advisory Conference November 6th at TSCPL

Every year, on the first Friday in November, the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library invites librarians from around the region to participate in a day-long Celebration of the Book. Some of our breakout sessions this year will address fiction genres including Horror, Noir, Pulp Fiction, Travel Mysteries, Culinary Mysteries, Escapism and Short Stories; there are several nonfiction sessions scheduled including discussions of Young Adult reading and Presidential Biographies.

In response to participants’ overwhelmingly positive reception of last year’s guest speaker, we have invited the witty and knowledgeable Michael Gannon to speak again. This year perhaps more than ever, Mr. Gannon’s refreshingly humorous approach to Reader’s Advisory hits just the right note. Michael is a regular reviewer for Booklist and is a popular speaker in the library world.

Fees for the entire day will be $35 which covers all sessions and includes a catered continental breakfast and hot lunch. Please arrive before 9:00 so that you can get your name tag and schedule for the day.

You can register online at http://www.tscpl.org/regform.pdf/. For more information, e-mail Valerie Reif at vreif@tscpl.org/.

We look forward to seeing you in November!
