Has this happened at your library? A patron wanders in and heads over to the Non-fiction section looking for a 2011 0r even 2012 edition of a GED Preparation book, or maybe a study guide for EMT Basic Exam. Will they find just what they need or will they leave frustrated? Keeping test books up-to-date and on the shelf is a constant fight, but with LearningExpress, that fight is much easier to win!
At NEST last year, Heather demonstrated LearningExpress and put together a great informational post with instructional videos, marketing materials and a list of ideas for how to promote this awesome resource. Have you been using it? Do you have a poster advertising LearningExpress near your other test prep books? How about adding a magazine box full of Learning Express bookmarks on the same shelf as your test prep books?
(Shhh…but we are also investing ways to add bibliographic records for these resources into an online catalog. If we can add eBooks from Project Gutenburg into NExpress, then we should be able to add records for GED Preparation tests! At least, that’s the hope.)
Are you and your staff familiar enough with this resource to promote it and answer questions and calls that may come? If not, we urge you to register, play, take a test, and just explore these resources…and have your staff do the same.
LearningExpress can also help fill the void left by HomeworkKansas, with Algebra and other math, reading, science and logic ‘skills improvement’ tests. Oh, and they have Computer and Internet skill builders as well.
LearningExpress is provided by the State Library of Kansas….so let’s use it!
