Many of you may get questions from your patrons on searching tutorials (or you might even be looking for these tips yourself!) that aren’t in librarian-speak. Today, the Lifehacker blog links to some great searching tips and a 3-minute video tutorial on “A Beginner’s Guide to Performing Better Web Searches.”

Some of the tips:

  • Be as specific, yet as brief, as possible when searching.
  • Put quotes around a specific phrase
  • Punctuation is ignored — no need for it!
  • Capitalization doesn’t matter.  Searches aren’t case sensitive.

Thanks to Liz for finding this resource! Lifehacker comes through yet again. It’s one of the few online sites we can’t live without.
