USDA Rural Public Library Grant and Loan ELMeR Program Announcement: Monday, March 29th, 1-2:30pm
Gary Smith, Community Programs Director, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Topeka will present information about Rural Library Initiative for interested regional library system directors and consultants, rural public library directors and board members or other interested community members. The USDA has made available funds to assist public libraries through its Community Facilities Program. Although a large portion of the funds are in the form of loans, non-profit organizations such as Library Friends groups or Foundations are eligible to apply for those loans.
This information program will be provided through an ELMeR Videoconference meeting. The NEKLS office will be a host site for this event.
Loan and grant assistance are available to rural communities of up to 20,000 in population. Eligible applicants include public libraries, cities, counties, special-purpose districts as well as non-profit corporations that have the legal authority necessary for construction, operation and maintenance of the proposed facility. Funds may be used to construct, enlarge or improve public libraries including costs to acquire land needed for a facility, pay necessary professional fees and purchase equipment required for operation as well as the to purchase equipment.
The date and time of the USDA Rural Library Initiative Information Session will be Monday, March 29 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. SCKLS will schedule the Elmer conference for the following locations:
