SUMMARY:Readers’ Advisory: Building Beyond the Basics

In this presentation we will cover: \n\n\n\n\nTips and guidance from trainings by readers’ advisory experts Joyce Saricks and Nancy Pearl\,\n\n\n\nAdvanced readers’ advisory training through the lens of How to Read Now by Elaine Castillo\,\n\n\n\nSuggestions for practical habits to build readers’ advisory skills.\n\n\n\n\nA follow-up discussion will be available on May 11 at 10:00 a.m. over Zoom. In this second webinar\, participants will be able to refine RA skills – learning from their peers – in a casual small group atmosphere. \n\n\n\nThis readers’ advisory training series is presented by Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library and Northeast Kansas Library System. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nYou can register for the Molly Wetta keynote here: Zoom Registration. \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMolly Wetta is the Library Services Manager for Santa Barbara Public Library\, overseeing programming\, outreach\, collections\, communications\, and patron services. Though she migrated west to California’s central coast\, a part of her heart will always be in her hometown of Lawrence\, Kansas\, where she was previously a collection development librarian at Lawrence Public Library. She approaches readers’ advisory like a sommelier – she’s WSET level 2 trained wine enthusiast in addition to being an avid and eclectic reader.

SUMMARY:Introvert Friendly Libraries Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Introverts are thought to make up 30% to 50% of our population\, but the professional world we are asked to thrive in is often centered around extrovert ideals.\n  \nTopeka Shawnee County Public Library\, Lawrence Public Library\, and NEKLS are partnering this fall to take a closer look at introvert inclusion in the workplace (specifically libraries). Following the keynote presentation by best-selling author Jennifer B. Kahnweiler\, PhD on November 3rd\, on November 16th @ 10:30 AM\, Brenda Hough and Anna Foote will facilitate a follow up online session where we will have small group discussions on the topic.\n  \nThis program will be open to staff from all library types in Northeast Kansas. A registration link for the online discussion will be sent to those who registered for the keynote presentation on November 3rd. If you need a link to the recording\, contact Dan (dalexander@nekls.org).\n\nLearn more about this topic by reading Creating Introvert-Friendly Workplaces.

SUMMARY:Introvert-Friendly Workplace Keynote with Dr. Jennifer Kahnweiler
DESCRIPTION:Introverts are thought to make up 30% to 50% of our population\, but the professional world we are asked to thrive in is often centered around extrovert ideals.\n\nTopeka Shawnee County Public Library\, Lawrence Public Library\, and NEKLS are partnering this fall to take a closer look at introvert inclusion in the workplace (specifically libraries). The keynote presentation by best-selling author Jennifer B. Kahnweiler\, PhD is on November 3rd @ 10:30 AM. Then later this fall\, on November 16 @ 10:30 AM\, Brenda Hough and Anna Foote will facilitate a follow up online session where we will be able to have small group discussions on the topic.\n\nThis program will be open to staff from all library types in Northeast Kansas. The registration link is below (there will be a recording made available).\n\n\nLearn more about this topic by reading Creating Introvert-Friendly Workplaces.\n\n\nRegister here: https://kslib.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0qfuCtrzMoGd3KDrj3gCNTwXNcTL9w-tHH

SUMMARY:Materials on the Move: Strategies for Delivery\, Distribution and Storage (Watch Party)
DESCRIPTION:NEKLS is making this workshop available at our office as a watch party. Let Dan know if you plan to stop in (dalexander@nekls.org). We can tune in to the Cultural Humility workshop with Xan Goodman at 1:30 PM if there is interest by our visitors.\n\n\n\nCourier and delivery. Shared remote storage. Floating collections. Potential presentation topics include but are not limited to:\n\n Challenges and opportunities in delivery and courier services\n Changes and new methods in collecting and distributing library materials\n Shifts in resource sharing\n Storage solutions
