DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday morning\, online\, on June 3rd at 10 a.m. for the NEKLS 2023 Trustee Training. Our presenter will be Robin Newell and she will be discussing library policy development and management. Register to attend the Zoom workshop here: https://kslib.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0tdu2hrDIrGNH75Q33x9znq8yT7Hz2Xt9t \n\n\n\nWorkshop Description\n\n\n\nThis workshop will include the process for the development and management of library policies in three different areas – outward facing (for the government of the library)\, inward facing (for the government of staff) and self (policies for the board). The workshop will be broken into 20-minute segments with a five-minute break between each segment. Time will be allowed for questions pertaining to the content that is being presented. If there are additional areas that participants would like to discuss with the presenter as a whole\, time will be made available at the end of the presentation. \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\nRobin Newell’s library career spanned twenty-four years in Georgia\, Nebraska and Kansas.  Newell served as the President of the Nebraska\, Kansas and Mountain Plains Library Associations and attended and mentored at both the Nebraska Library Leadership Institute and the Mountain Plains Library Leadership Institute and is an alumnus of the first American Library Leadership Institute in 2013. She is the incoming president of the Lillian Perdido Bay Optimist Club and served as the President of the Emporia\, Kansas Rotary Club and Papillion\, Nebraska and Emporia\, Kansas Lions Club. Trina has spoken and written widely about privacy and libraries and was editor of the 9th edition of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Manual and assistant editor of the 10th edition. She has led or been a member of intellectual freedom committees at the state\, regional\, and national levels\, and played a leadership role in raising awareness about the privacy implications of the USA PATRIOT Act\, working with then-Congressman Bernie Sanders to introduce the Freedom to Read Protection Act. She has spent her career within the social services arena\, developing programs and meeting constituents’ needs.Currently\, Nicole assesses the delivery of library services\, employing trauma-informed methods\, to transitional populations in public library branches and homeless shelters in Brooklyn\, New York. The result is now available for review as “Official RDA”.  \n\n\n\nIt is based on the IFLA-LRM (Library Reference Model) and includes many new terms for old concepts such as Aggregates\, Application Profiles\, Nomens\, and Representative Expressions\, and new tools such as LC’s Metadata Guidance Documentation (MGD). This educational session* will explain the reasoning behind the revisions\, what IFLA-LRM is\, and introduce many of the new concept terms.   \n\n\n\nAs a result of this program. participants will recognize and understand new concept terms (that is\, aggregates\, representative expressions\, and so forth)\, define the IFLA-LRM and explain its significance\, and recognize an application profile.  \n\n\n\nBobby Bothmann ~ Biography    \n\n\n\nBobby Bothmann is a professor at Minnesota State University\, Mankato where he serves as the catalog and metadata librarian. Bobby catalogs analog and digital resources of all kinds\, including books\, serials\, moving images\, objects\, cartographic resources\, musical and spoken word audio recordings\, and music in between many meetings. He is a member of the editorial board for Cataloging & Classification Quarterly and an active member of OLAC (OnLine Audiovisual Catalogers) where he has served in various roles including treasurer\, president\, and the current archivist.   \n\n\n\nHe holds an MLIS from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and an MS in Geography and English Technical Communication from MSU Mankato. Bobby moonlights as an adjunct instructor for the School of Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he teaches cataloging and classification courses and tries to covert one student per semester to the cataloging side of the Force.

She was the first British autistic women to address the UN on rights in 2014. In 2021\, her book\, Safeguarding Autistic Girls\, was distributed to all UK police forces to use. \n\n\n\nCarly was awarded an MBE for her services to the autistic community in 2017 and recognized with a honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University in 2022. \n\n\n\nDuring the interview\, Carly will share her experience of how homelessness and autism intersect after previously being homeless as a teenage mother.
