NEKLS is proud to announce that our newest staff member, Jessi Harris, has joined our ranks as the new Office Coordinator; she has replaced Muriel, so please update your contacts for that position.

Jessi started with a shortened week, right before Thanksgiving, but she is not new to the system, having worked for Lawrence and Tonganoxie Public Libraries before joining NEKLS.

Here’s more about Jessi in her own words:

I have to thank my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Coleman, for my love of books. She read Redwall by Brian Jacques out loud to our class, and I have been hooked ever since. I majored in Information Resource Studies at Emporia State University (ESU), and minored in Art History and Psychology. After spending a few years in the “real world,” I went back to ESU to obtain a Master of Library Science. For leisure reading, I gravitate towards Science Fiction, Fantasy Fiction, the 700’s. Outside of books, I love to dance, travel, watch movies, and learn new things.

You may not be familiar with the Pivot Questionnaire (below), the 10 questions originally came from a French series, hosted by Bernard Pivot, but they’re probably better known as the questions that James Lipton asked guests on “Inside the Actor’s Studio”.

James Lipton: What is your favorite word?
Jessi Harris: La mesita de noche (I know it’s four words, but it’s my favorite thing to say in Spanish).
JL:  What is your least favorite word?
JH: Literally.
JL: What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
JH: Dancing.
JL: What turns you off?
JH: Bullying, destroying artwork.
JL: What is your favorite curse word?
JH: This feels like a trick question.
JL: What sound or noise do you love?
JH: Classical and alternative music.
JL: What sound or noise do you hate?
JH: Fingernails on holographic planner covers, and bluejays.
JL: What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
JH: Contemporary Dancer (But I can still eat what I want).
JL: What profession would you not like to do?
JH: Lawyer.
JL: If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
JH: God: “Surprised?” Me: “Oh, you.” And then we’d laugh and eat various fruits.

We look forward to you meeting Jessi in the coming weeks.
