Celebrate The Book: Reader’s Advisory Conference

November 5th – 9am to 4pm at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library

The first speaker will be Stacy Alesi, aka The BookBitch. Alesi is an avid RA proponent who regularly contributes to Library Journal. She will present workshops on “How to Read a Book in 10 Minutes” and “Reading Reviews for Readers’ Advisory.” Visit Staci’s website for more information.

The keynote speaker will be Rachel Van Riel of the UK. Her company, Opening the Book, propelled the growth of reader-centered theories which are now embedded in UK library practice. Her team is completely turning RA on its head throughout the UK and Europe. We were given the opportunity to hear her speak via a webinar and were completely invigorated by her innovative approach to readers’ advisory. For more information about Ms. Van Riel, visit the Opening the Book website.

There will be several genre-related breakout sessions. The cost for “Celebrate the Book” is $40 (includes a continental breakfast and a hot lunch). To register, complete this registration form and send it by mail or courier to TSCPL.
