The 2009 Summer Reading Workshop will take place Tuesday, February 24th, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Marvin Auditorium at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. This year’s program features singer-songwriter Monty Harper. He’ll spend the morning entertaining and directing us in a creative exploration of the arts. Following lunch, Kareen King will present a program on using puppets and puppet shows in the library. Breakout sessions in the afternoon include a session that focuses on helping new directors and staff prepare effectively for summer reading activities; toddler and lapsit storytimes to promote books and reading, and targeting pre-teens with activities and programs that appeal to ages 8-12. Door prizes and displays will round out the program.
Cost for NEKLS members is $15 ($25 for non-members) and includes a continental breakfast and buffet lunch. The deadline to register is February 16th. Register online using our Event Registration link or use this registration form.
