February 10th
10 AM – 3 PM (lunch included)
@ NEKLS in Lawrence
Cost: $5

Facilitated by Stacey Van Houten (Basehor Public Library’s Early
Childhood Librarian) and Brenda Hough (NEKLS)

6 by 6 is an early literacy program that was created by The Johnson
County Library, which is now being rolled out statewide. It centers
around the six skills children need to acquire before they can learn
to read. Nurturing those skills during the birth to 5 years is
crucial. Attend this workshop to discover ways to teach parents and
caregivers to support early literacy. We’ll be distributing materials
that you can deliver to interested parents and caregivers. We’ll
include lots of storytime ideas, activity center ideas, and more!

Please register by February 7th so we can prepare enough lunch for
all! http://www.nekls.org/nekls-services/ce/event-registration/

PHOTOS NEEDED FOR DISPLAY:
Do you have a special 0-5 year old in your life? Son, daughter,
grandchild, niece, nephew, etc.? May I use his/her photo in a display
I am creating for this workshop? If so, please email to me ASAP:
— the child’s photo (extra credit if he/she is reading in the photo!)
— the child’s relationship to you
— the child’s age (must be 0-5 in the photo)
— the title of the child’s favorite book
You DO NOT need to send me the child’s name. The photo will be
identified by YOUR name and relationship to the child instead. These
photos will only be used and viewed here at NEKLS during the Feb 10
workshop. They will not be posted online.

If your wee one is older than 5, but you want to share a picture and
info about him/her when he/she was 0-5, that works, too!  Just include
how old the child is now please.

Questions? Email or call me!

Thank you and hope to see you on the 10th!
